Thermistor is a sensor resistor whose resistance value changes with temperature. According to the temperature coefficient, it can be divided into positive temperature coefficient thermistor (PTC) and negative temperature coefficient thermistor (NTC). Negative temperature coefficient thermistors are made of metal oxides such as manganese, cobalt, nickel and copper, and are manufactured by ceramic technology. These metal oxide materials have semiconductor properties because they are similar to semiconductor materials such as germanium and silicon in their conduction mode. When the temperature is low, the number of carriers (electrons and holes) of these oxide materials is small, so its resistance value is higher; as the temperature rises, the number of carriers increases, so the resistance value decreases. The variation range of NTC thermistor at room temperature is 100~1000000 ohms, and the temperature coefficient is -2%~-6.5%.

 

What to pay attention to when using NTC thermistor:
1)Be sure to add a suitable series resistor, otherwise thermal breakdown will occur when NTC is used, because the current flowing through the NTC will generate heat. If the heat cannot be dissipated in time, the temperature of the NTC will increase, and then the resistance will decrease. The current will increase significantly and the NTC will become hotter, such repetition may cause the NTC to be burned.

 

2)The high temperature during welding will cause irreversible resistance drift of NTC. In some cases, it may cause 5% drift, so try to avoid high temperature welding.

 

3)Avoid contacting with water when using NTC thermistor
